Hello!
My name is Jordan Dibb and on March 27th, 2010 I will begin walking from Minneapolis, Minnesota down to Miami, Florida to raise money and awareness for the earthquake survivors in Haiti. My 1,800 mile trip will take me through 8 different states and 100 days to complete. You may be wondering why I am taking on such a huge commitment of my own time and physical effort when I could simply donate a few dollars to any number of Haiti relief organizations. Simply put – I don’t have a few dollars to give. As a recent college grad, along with many (many!) others, I have yet to secure a paying career and I am finding myself strapped to even buy groceries and pay rent. Since I lack the funds to donate, I considered volunteering my time and energy with a Haiti relief organization. I recently inquired of a prominent organization as to how I could become a volunteer and donate my time to helping the people of Haiti and I was turned down due to my "lack of natural disaster volunteer experience." When I asked the representative on the other end of the phone what I could do to get down to Haiti to help, they simply replied, “You can always walk...”
So, I’m going to.
I have teamed up with the non-profit organization Action Against Hunger and we have made it our goal to raise $100,000 by the end of my walk on July 4th, 2010. Your tax deductible donations will go towards the essentials for the survivors in Haiti: food and water. On my walk, I want to raise both donations and awareness for the earthquake survivors of Haiti. I will be stopping through major cities such as Madison, Chicago, Indianapolis, Atlanta and many more. I hope to be able to stop and speak about my journey and get the American people up and moving for a great cause. Let’s start doing, instead of just thinking about it! This is the one thing that I can actually contribute to the people of Haiti and I've never had such a sense of determination and energy in my life. This walk is not entirely about Haiti, but about the American people as well. This walk is about connecting human beings together and believing in the one main thing that connects us all – Love. It stands for taking steps to doing the right thing. Our country is so used to just clicking buttons to donate a few dollars here and there without really thinking about the situation. While our hearts are in the right places, I'm trying to do something that people can see... hear... feel. Something that takes heart, effort, blood, sweat, and that can't be done alone. While my ambition and motivation are the foundations of this walk, I will not be able to achieve my goal without your support. Whether it’s donating to Action Against Hunger, walking with me when I come through your town, sharing you own personal stories of love, or just emotional support, it all makes a difference! I won’t be able to do this without you help.
I can't even begin to explain the feeling of knowing I'm capable of doing great things but not having the opportunities to do them. Well, now I'm taking the matters into my own hands and I am going to do everything I can to complete this walk and get as many donations as possible. We're all capable of doing so much good in our lives... it's just us up to us to decide to do something about it. This isn’t simply just about a young man walking across America – it’s about coming together, as human beings, in support of the common goal of helping those in need.
I walk for the People of Haiti. I walk for a better America.
I Walk For Love.
With Love,
Jordan Dibb
